A community member in Maunganui Bluff, New Zealand said they are calling for more measures to illegally collect shellfish and seafood in the area. He hopes to see multilingual signs placed at the beach entrance.

The New Zealand Ministry of Primary Industries confirmed that it will take action to combat poaching and prohibit the public from collecting shellfish in the area.

Spokesperson Stephen Rudsdale said: "Many people like the cockles on Ripiro Beach, but unfortunately, the amount of cockles illegally caught has been increasing."
